Dr Mary Catterall (1981-2002)

Dr Mary Catterall was the inspiration of the Cyclotron Trust and its driving force from the early days at the Hammersmith Hospital where contributions from grateful patients and their families produced the initial funding for the Trust. Dr Catterall became a Patron of the Trust on her retirement as a Trustee.

Dame Margot Fonteyn (1982-1991 on her death)

Dame Margot met Dr Mary Catterall at San Juan airport in Puerto Rico. A very short time later, Dame Margot became a trustee and was enormously encouraging and helpful during an important fundraising period in the development of the Trust

Sir Nicholas Bonsor (1986-1992)

Sir Nicholas Bonsor chaired the Trust during the exceptionally difficult period when the St Thomas' Hospital project was progressing and then suddenly halted. He retired from the Trust when he was appointed as a minister in the Foreign Office. He was subsequently appointed as President of the Trust, a role in which he continues to support the Trust.

Mr Russell Evans (1986-2011)

Mr Evans was chairman of the Rank Organistaion in the early 1980s. He joined the Trust in 1986 bringing a sharp his legal mind, a clear understanding of business and investment to support our objectives. He also helped enormously in the formation of the Fundraising Committee by persuading many serious people from the business world to be interested. His major contribution in later years was to bring 'lay' common sense to the Trust's deliberations whilst also overseeing all financial aspects of the Trust's work.

*Mr Richard Packard (1986-

Mr Richard Packard is a distinguished ophthalmologist with a wide interest across medicine. He took over the chairmanship of the Trust when Sir Nicholas Bonsor retired. Mr Packard has guided the Trust into its new role in support of particle therapy generally.

Dr Short is a Consultant in Clinical Oncology at the University College London Hospitals Foundation Trust. She has special research interests in the radiobiology of brain tumours and normal CNS and the use of new agents in the treatment of brain tumours. She brings an invaluable perspective particularly to the Trust's educational aims.
